Collaboration works in all sectors

Private sector

Progressive organisations are beginning to understand that to a large extent their success depends on suppliers, customers and even competitors who add value on their behalf.

They realise that:

• Much of their value chain is determined outside the organisation
• It may be undesirable to own every step of the chain
• It’s important to concentrate on those parts where real competitive advantage can be gained.

Public sector

Many Public Sector organisations are structured in such a way that it is only possible for them to achieve their outcomes if they work with and cooperate with other Public Sector organisations. For example the health of children (an areas where I have done some work) can only be achieved if the Ministry of Health, Plunket, District Health Boards and other health providers cooperate and collaborate very closely. Without this level of cooperation the various services will provide disjointed, ad hoc services which unlikely to be successful.
