Business Model based on truth
The current business model that is now more than a 100 years old is badly flawed because it is based on a number of fallacies disproved by recent discoveries in science. Some of these include:
1. Workplaces are based on mechanics | 1. Workplaces are based on organics |
2. Managers think like engineers | 2. Managers think like gardeners |
3. Organisations are hierarchies based on silos and organisational charts | 3. Organisations are closely networked living systems |
4. People can't be trusted | 4. People can be trusted if you trust them |
5. People need to be controlled | 5. People need to be free |
6. Control leads to more order | 6. Control leads to less order |
7. Top-down management is the natural order | 7. Top-down and bottom-up is natural |
8. People are separate from each other | 8. People are far more closely connected than most people believe |
9. Products and services are pushed out the customers | 9. Customers pull value (products and services) from the organisation |
10. Thinking is about straight line logic and cause and affect | 10. Thinking is about systems thinking, feedback loops, time lags and unintentional consequences |
11. Straight lines are assumed for organisational structure | 11. Natural shapes like spirals, bags, trees and curved lines are assumed for organisational structure |
12. Taking is the way to success | 12. Giving is the way to success |
13. We live in a world of scarcity | 13. We live in a world of plenty |
14. The normal curve explains most distributions. | 14. Many distributions are explained by power curves. |
The old business model based on fallacies lead to quite different behaviours in the workplace:
FALLACIES LEAD TO | TRUTH LEADS TO |
1. Unnecessary internal competition | 1. Far more collaboration |
2. Top-heavy political power | 2. Lighter and more caring leadership |
3. Lack of passion at the grass-roots | 3. High energy at the grass roots |
4. Fear, control and isolation | 4. Trust, freedom and connectedness |
5. 60% of people disengaged | 5. 100% engagement |
6. People feel stuck | 6. People feel liberated |
7. People feel less than human | 7. People feel human |
8. People feel abused. | 8. People feel trusted. |
