IRRESISTIBLE LEADERS NEVER FORGET THEY HAVE A CHOICE

The sixth secret

This is the sixth of many secrets from Virtual Group's Irresistible Leadersip Program.

You can also hear Bruce interviewed about the sixth secret.

Irresistible leaders never forget they have a choice. They can choose to include rather than exclude. They can choose to join rather than separate. They can choose to find the good in people, not the bad. They can choose to trust rather than distrust.

If you are a small person your tendency is probably: To not trust someone, to rely on yourself or to exclude them so they don't get too close to you and find out about your weaknesses.

Whereas if you are a big person, you are much more likely to choose the other way. Big people say, "I'm going to trust this person because together we can do things that I can't do alone." "Including them may benefit both of us." "I feel good about myself and I'm sure they are good too!"

Irresistible Leaders are big people, who know themselves and are sure of themselves. Only big people, sure of themselves, and who they are, are willing to find the best in others and recruit people stronger than they are.

Small people are too filled with their own ambitions and their own sense of being terrific to see the strengths in others. Or perhaps they see these strengths and are too afraid to let them shine through, least they outshine themselves.

People who choose to grow people and give to people are the people others are attracted to, want to follow and want to help be successful. This is the basis of my irresistible leadership program. When I talk about "irresistible", it's almost as though they are like magnets and other people are like iron. They are drawn to them without understanding why or how. It happens at a subconscious level. We all feel this attraction. They are like radiators pumping out energy. They give you something you didn't have before. They are trying to make you stronger and bigger than you thought was possible.

Other people repel us. They are like refrigerators sucking out our energy. They are trying to make us smaller and weaker, so that by comparison they feel stronger.

Life is very much about choices. Some people seem to go through life making poor choices. Other people go through making really good choices. Those little choices that we make every day, end up making the difference between success and not-success.

It's a daily choice. I guarantee each day you will make a choice about whether to include someone or exclude someone; trust someone or distrust some; look for strengths or look for weaknesses. The way you choose will determine whether you are an irresistible leader or not. I think it's amazing how these little choices made on a daily basis, accumulate into a successful life or into an unsuccessful life.

Imagine for a moment, an organisation where everyone was making these positive choices:

  • "I'm going to trust this person."
  • "I'm going to communicate openly."
  • "I'm going to do what's best for the organisation even if in the short-term, it's to my detriment."
  • "I'm not going to hold information back."
  • "I am not going to play petty politics."

I think it"s amazing how these little choices made on a daily basis, accumulate into a successful organisation or into an unsuccessful organisation. Imagine how incredibly powerful this organisation would be with the multiplier affect of these daily decisions. This is the essence of magic in organisational development.

This is why my Leadership Development Program spends so much time helping people understand themselves, their genius, their personal branding and their subconscious mind. Without this understanding people will never be big enough to be real leaders.

The level of change required will not happen on a one-day course. It only happens when people are exposed to a continuous flow of development over an extended period, long enough to change lifetime habits. In the final event we all behave according to the set of behaviours we have adopted. Change these habits and you change the behaviours. If we have good habits we will do good things and if we have bad habits we will do bad things.

Call To Action

In good times poor leadership can be hidden, but in bad times poor leadership is a recipe for disaster that you can't afford.

This is the perfect time to invest in the leadership of your future. The investment is small. The returns are LARGE.

Now is the right time!

Please give me a call if you'd like your people to be irresistible leaders; or if you'd just like to know more.

In the meantime, think BIG,
