Steelfort Engineering Limited

Advise Steelfort (a medium sized manufacturing company of about 130 persons based in Palmerston North) on all aspects of strategic change, including their information needs.

Bruce's role was to introduce a change management project in business strategy and continuous improvement. The company had a confusing number of products and no clear view of its future. Bruce worked with management to clarify the strategic direction of the organisation over a three-day strategic workshop. A clear vision was established and three key strategies chosen to achieve the vision.

One of the strategies included far deeper involvement and empowerment of the staff (from top to bottom). This resulted in Bruce facilitating a series of one-day offsite workshops starting with senior management but eventually involving every member of staff to get them involved in a new way of working towards the vision and values.

He designed and implemented research to determine the characteristics of Staff Culture so that effort was directed where it was most required.

He facilitated the Group's values, a process that involved all staff and management, and as a result they became more externally focussed and customer oriented. He trained team leaders in the principles and methods of business improvement and strategic change and provided training every staff member in process methods and tools required, including measurement and follow up and feedback.

Bruce trained a group of 8 facilitators who assisted 19 groups (all staff) immerse into a 12-week change process to become far more self managing and empowered than before.
