Structure

The structure needs to make the organisation fast, flat and flexible. Procedures and protocols are necessary for any organisation to function, but too much red tape impedes progress, dampens employees enthusiasm and leaches their energy. Winning organisations trim every possible vestige of unnecessary bureaucracy; extra layers of management, unnecessary rules and regulations and outdated formalities. They strive to make their structures and processes as simple as possible, not just for their employees but also for their suppliers and their customers. The study shows that it doesn't matter much whether they are organised according to functions, geographically or by products.

Virtual Group has a unique credibility in the area of Organisational Structure because, back in 1995 when we set up, we were the "virtual organisation" for consultants in New Zealand, and to out knowledge in the world. Back then, almost no-one knew about virtual organisations, people said things like: “Are you in IT?” or “Are you in virtual reality?”. Now they are catching on because they can see the benefits that having the guts to role-model what we believe in, can bring. In the years since we have accumulated considerable knowledge about how to work in a more flexible way, not only through working with our clients but also through living that way ourselves.
